Ok, they have too many churches and have to convert some of them for other uses. But they also seem to have a lack of churches, as they are converting a shed into a church!
And as this is the last Sunday I spend in Bristol (sigh!) and I still had a few churches to show you, I added pictures to some previous posts.
Bristol's wild life!
Some pictures of the day we went in Brandon park, to try and tame squirrels with peanuts in our hands. Special guest: Odile.
Sara had one eating in her hand...
I had one eating in my hand...

And Odile had one eating on her laps!
She even managed to stroke its belly!
And a little video...
Some bits of English humour...
English people are very proud of their "English sense of humour". These are just a few things that made me laugh, and which mock it.
You see these "neighbourhood watch area" everywhere. I find it funny, because either it means everyone is watching everyone else's house, or you can put this sign just to frighten burglars, and don't do it. So well, as it's everywhere, it's as if it was nowhere... I even saw such a sign in a countryside area, where there where only two houses, and none could see the other because of the trees and the distance.
Obsession of security... What does it mean, in the outside, in a country where it always rain, and consequently where the floor always get wet?
I thought it was funny that they use this phrase on an official sign. When I told people that in France it's a rather familiar phrase, and what it literally meant, they didn't believe me!
Another misused Franch phrase: they think that we say "Ooh la la!" when we see some pretty woman in the street... Do we? Well, I know they think the same in Spain, maybe in other countries as well.
Aren't these uncommon notices?
Look on the roof, among the seegulls. Yes, that's an owl. Well, a fake owl. I didn't understand why they put it here. There are three of them on the roof. I thought it was to be a scarecrow, but it doesn't seem to work. So I don't get why there are pieces of art on a shed roof...
I guess this sign was supposed to mock it.

Guess what is the name of this small path...
That's right: "avenue"!

And now a story I was told!
A French journalist interviewed the GB cycle team leader after the Tour, and asked him how GB team became that efficient. The leader answered "It's because our wheels are perfectly round"!
The journalist actually printed it, and the redactor, who was on holidays, discovered it and yelled: "Why are you printing that? That's English sense of humour!"
And the best bit is that the wheels were actually made... in France!
Rainbow slugs!
I haven't shown you my house I think... Since July we're living in a house in Easton, and in the morning, when it's sunny, we have rainbows everywhere in the room.
They are even climbing on us.
It means we sometimes have a rainbowy breakfast!

The day of the Lord
This one is not far from my house, at the end of Bristol-Bath cycle path. It was turned into a cycle shop.
Flamey Oh!
Have you seen the opening ceremony yesterday? I went to Millenium Square to watch it on the big screen, and it was great! It was amazing to hear everyone laughing and clapping as soon as Mr Bean appeared! (well, they did the same for David Beckam, which I reprove...)
And it was nice too to see where every country was in the crowd. We heared applause for China, for Belgium, and some others. And we noticed when France came that we were just beside a French group!
Well anyway, I particularly loved the flight of Mary Poppins, and the wingged cycles. And what did you think of the Torch? Wasn't it a nice symbol, these many small torches joining together in one flame?
On the contrary, I thought the giant baby was really scary... (ans so was Sir Paul McCartney)
But it's wonderful how British people are so wicked proud of themselves, isn't it? I loved all these British references, but anyway.
And Sara loved that every Spanish speaking country men were wearing hats!

The day of the Lord
This church is on Gloucester Road. It is now a school of gymnastics and dance. The chapel beside was also converted into a theatre for the school's shows.
And this is a fitness club. I love the red X of "Exercise club"! Another way to use a cross on a church...

A dozen of vans, please
This surprised me: there are lots of vans here in Bristol. I don't know why. But anyway, I like these cars, so I took pictures of a few of them...
The day of the Lord
This one is my favourite! It's a climing centre. It's in St Werburghs, on Mina Road.
I was a little disappointed though to see you could not climb into the bell tower... But it's great anyway!

How to recognize your house
I just moved to Bristol, I'm really glad of my new home with a bow-window, so british! There was just one little problem... I could never recognize my house, for in my street every houses were alike.
Well, to be true, every houses in every streets are alike! What a nightmare!
So I decided to do something. I painted my door in flashy pink! I was very proud of it, and never tried to enter my neighbour's house again.
But a little while later, I noticed this house. Damn! Someone had the same idea as me!
So I thought hard, and had another idea. This time, I'm pretty sure nobody will do the same...
